A video from our research & project coordinator, Ranece!

Ranece Gordon is the research and project coordinator of Black Women’s Visions.

Born out of her thesis research where she looked at Black women’s interactions in healthcare, Ranece built Black Women’s Visions with the help, support and connections of Dr. Allyson Ion from McMaster University’s School of Social Work. Ion, a researcher and advocate in Canada’s HIV world, has done art- and community-based projects involving women living with HIV for years. What Ranece and Allyson saw as a natural link between Black women, healthcare and HIV is now Black Women’s Visions, which now has many supporters and collaborators, including Nomvelo Dingani and Noxy Goto at the AIDS Network; Meagan Cook and Jackie Barrett-Greene at Positive Living Niagara; Irene Wanyoto Nangulu and Mary Ndung’u at Women’s Health in Women’s Hands, and 6 wonderful Black women living with HIV who sit on our Community Advisory Committee.

In this video, Ranece welcomes you to BWV with a quick summary of the history of the project, plus her hopes for the project now that we’ve launched!

Please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments you have!
