HIV & Travelling
Do you travel locally or internationally?
Have you ever thought about relocating parmanently to a different country?
Has your HIV status being a hindrance or have you ever feared relocating to a different country because you are HIV positive?
Please don't be afraid. HIV status/ results are not a requirement while traveling locally or internationally.
Have you thought about ARVs refill from a different city or country? Do you think it's possible? Yes! It's doable. All you need to have are your medical records, and you will continue getting your ARVs without any problem. Some hospitals may insist on testing you again before enrolling you into their medical records. Although annoying, this shouldn’t be too bothersome as you’ve been tested before and it will allow you to get your medication.
My advice? Never let your HIV status be a hindrance in pursuing your dreams. If your desire is to relocate to a different town or country, take control of your health, pursue your dreams, achieve your goals and live a fulfilled life.
When I am traveling for leisure or business, I plan ahead and ensure I have enough stock of my ARVs. I don't want trouble or drug refill to be a source of my stress whenever I travel. Always plan ahead, have your medication refilled, have your medical records ready with you just in case you finish your medication before the planned date. Google health facilities nearby before you travel so you have an idea of where you may get medication and don’t miss taking your drugs because you are travelling. Remember missing your medication only gives the virus the strength. The goal is to keep your viral load at undetectable level by taking your ARVs.
A.J.’s note: Stay on top of your health and travel whenever possible! HIV equals to no life restrictions.
